Mailbox Peak!
Saturday July 30th
Me, Matilda, Elin and Linnéa all met at Matilda’s house this morning to get ready to go hiking Mailbox Peak a pretty hard and long hike. We had snacks and a lot of water with us. For this hike there is two trails, the new longer one or the old trail which is shorter but steeper. After some discussion we decided to go up the new trail. After a couple hours we finally made it to the top, it was very hard at the end, rocky, sandy and sunny! The view from the top was amazing 😀 We sat down and had our snacks and wrote in the guestbook that someone had left in the mailbox. When we had relaxed and gained more energy we started our hike back down. We had decided to go for the old trail down.
There was not really a clear trail but you could see were other people had been sliding down cause there was sand and roots everywhere so at some point you had do slide sideways and hold on to a tree. Elin and I walked a little faster then Matilda and Linnéa so we were ahead of them. Elin walked in front of me and suddenly she stopped and I asked “What is it?” and she answered “It’s a black bear!” I could just feel the fear hit me and Elin grab my arm and we hid behind a tree. I was stiff like a stick but at same time shaking as a leaf. I asked “What do we do!?” and she said “Hand me my phone” so I did and she called her host dad. The bear had seen us, ran away and hid in the bushes, so the bear was hiding and we were hiding and we couldn’t see if there was any cubs. Well Elin’s host dad told us to make noise but I was just standing there saying “I can’t do that!” and then we started thinking about Matilda and Linnéa that were still on the trail. So after a while Elin and I slowly started backing up the trail and then we tried to contact the girls and I called Nick. We were standing there shaking and my adrenaline was racing. We got hold of Linnéa and told them about the bear and to hurry down. After a while we heard them coming screaming down the trail and we all were just shaky but decided to move on and made a lot of noise by screaming, stomping and clapping our hands and we did that all the way until we were at the car. Luckily we didn’t see the bear again but oh man it was an adventure!
